AIADMK functionary hacked to death near Chennai

CHENNAI: An unidentified man hacked a 49-year-old AIADMK functionary to death at Thiruninravur near Chennai on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Poochandran, a resident of Meattu Colony in Thiruninravur. He was the presidium president of AIADMK's Thiruninravur unit.

His wife, Maragathavalli, is a councillor of Thiruninravur village panchayat.

Poochandran was returning home on his bike when he was intercepted by a man. The assailant hacked Poochandran from behind, and he suffered two deep cut injuries on the neck.

Witnesses said the incident happened at 9.30pm. He was taken to a private hospital and later to Government General Hospital here. However, he died without responding to treatment.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Poochandran was involved in real estate business and was running a few bars attached to some Tasmac shops in the area. He had illegal intimacy with a woman.

The Thiruninravur police registered a case. An investigation officer said, "We are looking into all possible angles to narrow down on the assailant."
